anyone ever get involved with this company? DH and I are thinking about doing some home improvements and they sell direct form the warehouse things like cabinets, etc.
It seems like a scam to me - I think you have to put in an annual fee to get your savings.
Re: Direct Buy - a scam?
i do know of people who have gotten really good deals using it. i don't know that it's a scam, really, but you have to be buying a lot i think to make it worth your while.
maybe post over on decorating and renovating (or whatever it's called) on the nest.

My blog * We made the national news!
Our friends have it and honestly I think its a waste of money! And they are building a house (building it themselves, well him and DH) and they have found that they find lots of better deals at Lowes, Home Depot, Menards, etc. For building a whole house and doing all the work on their own, they haven't got hardly anything from direct buy(I think fixtures for the house like the ceiling fans, lights, faucets, fridge, and kitchen cabinets and even these things weren't great deals!). I would say defiantley not enough for what they have paid into it. I believe when they signed up they paid over a grand to join and then they pay a yearly fee of like $500 (they have to for I think 5 years maybe).
And like others said they had to decide the night of "orientation" if they wanted to join or not and they coudln't look at the items or prices before deciding.

Why would anyone sign up for ANYTHING without seeing items and prices?!? My DH would NEVER go for that! Weird, but glad to know how it works now since I have seen the ads on TV.
We didn't do it, because it sounded like there were wayyy too many strings attached. I think we had to go to a seminar and I worked evenings so DH was just going to go and they basically said no deal.. what?!
We bought bathroom furniture from Lowe's and got a great deal on cabinets through a local guy.. so I'm glad we didn't do Direct Buy.

Okay, this post was meant for me, MOO
DH and I did a LOT of research on DB and we even went through the 4 hour orientation and all. So, it's great for those who are not internet savvy or those who are not used to searching for deals. First of all, the sign-up fee for us in Orange County was $5,600 and I've heard from others in the midwest that their fee was like $4,800. RIDICULOUS for the regular home owner!!! It would be great if you build homes for a living, or decorate them for a living. I think Francisca belongs to DirectBuy b/c her family builds homes.
So, for example, we did our research on price comparisons before we attended their open house. We found a copper kitchen sink with apron front online for $2,500, then found the same exact sink elsewhere online for $900. We showed the salesguy at DB the pictures/dimensions/weight of the online sink, and DB's price was $1,400. So, if you know how to shop around, then don't sign up, IMO. We did not and we've gotten amazing deals on our own. AND to boot, you order through DB and have to pick up the stuff from their warehouse... it's not delivered to you. At least that's one inconvenience I remember about them (I may be wrong). GL!
