Pregnant after a Loss

Gender Scan question

Do they do this on yoru belly or internally? Just curious because everyone seems to have such different angles.

Also do they spend longer doing it when they are determining gender?

Re: Gender Scan question

  • its a belly shot, and its usually longer because they check a lot of things at that scan

  • They did the gender/anatomy scan externally but they checked my cervix internally, so lucky me, I got both.

  • Mine was external. It takes longer because they measure everything, head, limbs, organs. They make sure everything is growing as it should. The last thing they did was the gender check. But it was cool to see the baby so the wait wasn't bad!
  • Finding out the gender is really just a bonus.  The goal of the 20 week u/s is to examine the baby's systems and organs to make sure everything it developing properly.  It can take quite a while, especially if the baby is in an awkward position.  I had to roll onto my side two or three times so the tech could get good shots of the heart.
    DD1 is 3, DD2 is 1.
  • Mine was external and like others have said they are taking several measurements so it's a longer u/s than normal.
