Babies: 9 - 12 Months

FF'd 8-9 month olds

How many bottles and how many ounces do they take each day? DD still takes 4-5 bottles each day. I give 7ozs in each, but she rarely finishes those now. Daycare says she isn't interested in the bottle. I know it is time to be dropping bottles or reducing her formula intake as she is ready, but I just don't know what to do next. I'm trying to follow her cues and in the process am wasting formula, but that isn't the issue. Everyone is telling me she should be getting fewer bottles that are larger, but she doesn't want that.

  • My daughter gets 4 8oz bottles a day...she usually finishes it all.  We were giving 5 6oz bottles a day but she wouldn't finish the last two bottles so we switched to 4 a day more spread out and now she eats all 8oz.

  • DD was taking 8 oz at least 5 times a day, pretty regularly, and then one day it all stopped.  We now only offer her 6 oz and she'll usually finish that.  She's now eating cereal and a whole container of Gerber Stage 2 fruit in the morning and then a whole container of Stage 2 veggie in the afternoon.  By the end of the day, she typically has about 24 oz of formula in her (so about 4 bottles).  At daycare, she snacks on some puffs every now and then, but I'm not sure how much she actually eats vs plays with.  At home on the weekends, she gets puffs and we're just now starting to try other items.  I get a little freaked out when she gags, she looks like she's choking.  Hopefully, I'll get over that.

  • I have the exact same problem!  DD gets 5 bottles a day of 6oz but rarely eats them in full and then because of that she wakes up in the middle of the night for a bottle and sucks it down.  We just started a new schedule so I'm hoping this will help...I was feeding her every 3.5 hours but we streched it 4 now so maybe that will help...
  • DS gets 3-4 8 oz bottles a day.  Daycare has started noticing that he is refusing his bottles more and more.  I brought a cup in and they are going to start using that at breakfast and lunch.  They will offer the bottle inbetween but won't push it.  Pedi said some babies are ready at 9 mo to wean off the bottle.
  • that sounds like DD when she was that age. that's when we switched her to four 6oz bottles a day. she does great with that now.  GL
