So I got the results of my NT scan yesterday. Trisomy was 1:10,000. Awesome. Downs was 1:370. I am 24 years old, will be 25 when baby is born. What they said is that really it is negative because their cutoff is 1:220. However, for someone my age the average risk or whatever is 1:720, so I'm about twice as likely for someone my age. So now I have to decide if I want to go any further and talk to a genetic counselor and do 2nd level u/s or amnio. I will not do the amnio for sure, and right now am leaning against not going any farther with it. During the u/s the tech said she definitely saw a nasal bone, and the measurements were around .15 - .17 so I feel good about that. Besides, 1:370 is .27% chance of the baby having Downs.

Re: NT Scan Results - WWYD
Hmm, Honestly, I would probably do the level 2 u/s just so I could see the baby again and it would be covered my ins....
Even though it is a higher risk than the ave 25 y/o it is still neg and all those tests show a chance not that the baby has it, so I think your chances are still pretty darn good that baby is healthy esp since you saw the nasal bone and had good NT measurements.

I would do the level 2 u/s and the combined bloodwork. Then take it from there. Although your numbers are elevated for your age, your % is still quite low. The fact that there were no markers on your u/s should also increase your numbers.
We went through this with my last pregnancy. We did not have the NT scan done and it was not until the big u/s that we learned of our increased risks. My bloodwork was 1:25 for down syndrome, when the 6+ echogenic markers that were found my my risk increased to 1:10. On the flip side a close friend of mine had a 1:4 (yes four!) risk for down syndrome, she opted to have a cvs done and her son did not have down syndrome.
You will be in my thoughts, sorry you have some additional stress.
having just gone through this for trisomy 18 -- I will tell you what we did and our plan is. We had a 1 in 8 chance for t18. I went in for the level two u/s -- which was completely clear of markers. And based on that we decided to NOT do the amnio. We will be having another level 2 u/s at 20 weeks and will reassess then. If there are still no markers, we will not have the amnio.
If it were me and I was worried -- I would get the level two u/s.
Good luck! Your numbers are still less then 1% chance though!!!
