Baby Showers

Hostess Gift ...What would you rather have?

My best friend who is throwing my shower is 20 weeks pregnant. I can't decide if I should buy her a gift that is for her that she could use forever or buy her something for her pregnancy that she may only use short term. I'm thinking about a pair a Majamas or a half dozen nursing tanks, just something that I know she will need but not want to buy herself. What would you buy?

  • You could probably get her something that is for her but a pregnant her. Like maybe something for a mom-to-be pampering. That is something I would want lol. If its not in your price range what you said would be fine. Mom's can always use more stuff for her pregnancy. :)

  • I am suggesting something like a maternity gown that she can wear throughout her pregnancy and at the hospital, even pp is she wants. The reason is because unless you have an infinite budget, it's kinda hard to spend $30-40 on something you know you'll only be using during your pregnancy (even though ya really really want it) So getting it as a gift would be awesome. Especially so early on in her pregnancy.
  • I liked the nursing gown idea. I think anything pregnancy-related would be appreciated, since it's so hard to justify spending money on maternity things because it's such a short time that they'll be used.

I'd probably also get her a plant or flowers, because that makes it feel more special (IMHO).

  • I got an Earth Mama Angel Baby Pregnancy gift set  and LOVED it.  Summer is coming..everyone could use a pedicure!  I would pass on the nursing tanks.

Ooo... a pre-natal massage would be perfect!

  • I really think it depends on the person. I would hate a maternity gown. Total. Waste. Of. Money. I'm going to wear a tank top to give birth, I don't want a friend spending money on something that's going to get covered in blood, ruined and tossed.?

Same goes for massages or pedicures. I hate them both and would be sad that someone wasted their money to buy it for me.?

I'd personally prefer a nice picture frame (or album) that I could use for baby pics later. ?

  • Well it depends on what she likes. I would love a pregnancy massage or a pedicure closer to my due date- when the feet don't feel so good lol. I just can't for some reason justify spending money on myself (I don't NEED a massage or a pedicure). I might skip the nursing tanks unless she is dead set on breastfeeding and you've had that discussion with her...
  • I'd get something for her, or that she'll be able to use for a long long time. I like the ideas of the massage, maybe a gift certificate to a photo place (for either preg. photos or after baby is born) or a set of notecards with forever stamps.

FWIW, I was given the idea of personalized notecards, and my mom and sister are getting 18 of them in a pretty box with a gift card for hostess gifts. your friend could also use them as thank you's as she's probably starting to get some baby gifts.
