2nd Trimester

Can you explain what it feels like when you feel the baby move?

I guess I am expecting Twilight kicking where my ribs break..ha j/k

But just now it kind of felt like a gas bubble with no gas...make sense? I have been feeling this for awhile, but when people ask if I have felt it move I say no.

?

  • I wouldn't know personally - but that's how everyone has described it to me.  I think you're feeling it and just didn't realize it!  :)

Ha..I hope so. I was just thinking it would be really?noticeable??when it happens.

  • That is kinda what it feels like when you first start to feel them move. I explained it like butterflies. When you have a nervous stomach or something, that weird feeling you get in the pit of your stomach. That's what it felt like to me. Now it feels like a mini earthquake in there since she's growing so much and kickin! :)

  • To be honest, I never felt flutters, popping, etc. It was just full on movement one day for me, and there is no way to mistake it for anything other than baby! I kept waiting to feel fluttering movements when one day I was surprized with full on kicks.
  • The earliest movements usually feel kind of like lots of little bubbles.  What you are feeling is probably the baby, but its hard to say.

  • My kicks and moves have been a bit different.  I lost 12 lbs in first and beginning of second tri and my ute is near my skin so when I started to feel kicks I have been able to feel them on both the inside and outside.  And they're definitely kicks and movements rather than butterflies.

My sister is the same way though, w/ her ute close to her skin so she could feel her baby move on the outside as well.

  • This may be a horrible way to describe it...but...

Lightly tap under your jaw (like where a second chin would be if you had one), that's what it feels like.  LOL

I do this to my husband when he asks me what it feels like...

  • And I also agree with PP, it is common to miss the whole "bubbles and butterflies" stage and go straight to little kicks.  That's what happened to me this time (although this is #3 for me, so I'm more sensitive to it)

DH just looked over at me strangely when I just started tapping under my chin.  Good example...just wishing I didn't have an anterior placenta so I could actually feel that now....:::continues to tap under jaw:::::

  • That is crazy how much tapping your chin feels like little kicks... I am glad my coworkers weren't paying attention when I was doing it =)
  • It feels like someone is tapping from the inside.  It's like little pops that feel like taps - like when someone taps your shoulder.  I have an anterior placenta, so I don't feel movement that much, but when I do - that's what I feel.

  • Mine also felt like tapping from the inside.  Kind of like a fish running into the wall of an aquarium or nibbling on your finger.  It didn't feel anything like butterflies to me though (the way my mom described it).  the first time I felt it was 15 week 6 day.  My boy friend felt it on 19 weeks from the outside.

    You'll feel it soon!!! :o)

  • I felt that "gas bubble" type feeling around 16/17 weeks but I didn't REALLY feel movement until the middle of my 19th week. To me, it feels like I'm being flicked from the inside or popping. Still not consistent and my husband can't feel it yet, but it's getting stronger.

  • To me (especially when I first felt it) it kind of feels like little muscle spasms in my belly - I've never felt a "gas bubble" so that description didn't make sense to me.

  • The best way I can describe my first movements is that it felt similar to  when your eye twitches.
