Which is more important?
Almost every day I try to put DS down for his nap in his crib - sometimes drowsy, sometimes asleep. Most days we fail. He's up in less than 10 mins crying. And if we succeed (twice) he only naps for 30 mins. After putting him in his crib twice I call it a day and let him sleep in his swing, where he will sleep for hours.
I'm going back to work in 3 weeks and he won't be able to swing while at daycare/grandma's. So what do I do? I feel like a failure every time I let him sleep in his swing, but at least he sleeps!
Any advice would be great.
Re: napping in crib vs. long nap
I've had the same issue. My son (21 weeks) is just now sleeping well in his crib at home for naps. I was very concerned about how daycare would go, but after 2 months he is sleeping in a crib at home and daycare. I can't say it's without intervention though, as daycare has a noise machine.
As for napping at home, it slowly started getting better after starting daycare almost immediately and he now takes most all naps in his crib. Our pedi speculated that the issue with a crib at home is that he wants to be near us and "part of the action" (even if he's napping). DS has always been very alert/curious, so it makes sense. And I can reconcile that with daycare by saying that the layout of his classroom is such that even if he's in a crib, he's not far from the action and still part of it.
So - no real suggestions because we didn't do anything other than keep trying and eventually it worked.
This is exactly what I do and it works for us.
