Preston is on steroids for his Bronichitis (they end today, thank God). I'm just wondering if this might have something to do with his defiant attitude. I don't know, maybe I'm grasping. I hate to think that I did this to him by leaving him for so long, although it's very likely.
Re: Do Steroids change a child's behavior?
He is on both actually (antibiotic and steriods as well as a cough suppressant). The steroids I was told would help with drying up and thinning out the mucous in his lungs.
oh hell yeah it can change behavior! Its called the 'roid rage.
When M. was on it her mood swings were awful...worst than a menopausal woman
steroids help with inflamation, but not drying or thinning of mucus..that's weird they told you that.
but yes, if the dose is strong enough and they are on it long enough they can cause behaviour changes.
but honestly....I really think its just the typical phases that kids go through...some days my kids are daddy's kids...some days they only want me. It's the way it works. Right now, my middle DD wants me...my oldest wants DD and Mitch is a toss up...depends on his mood. And none of my kids are on steroids. You are grasping.....
ditto pps about the purpose of the steroids
Yes, it can be what's making things seem a lot worse right now. However, I think it's a lot of things going on - all kids go through phases where they want one parent over the other, you did just go away for a while and he's having a hard time with that, and last - you did mention the other day that he calls the shots about who bathes him, reads to him, etc. You're the parent. You need to set boundaries and be the one in control, or it's just going to get out of hand.
And you didn't "do this to him" by going away for a while. They don't have the ability to express things well, it doesn't mean if you're fault b/c you took a vacation.
