Re: XP: 1 hour glucose question

  • my ob says fasting is not required- but that i should NOT eat anything with sugar/carbs in it the morning of the test..... I fasted from midnight on- woke up, had eggs/cheese and got my test- and passed (with my first pg).

water is fine - it will not alter your sugar levels.

  • I didn't have to fast either.  Be sure to lay off the carbs/sugar the night before.
  • I didn't have to fast before the 1 hr, but definitely avoided anything with sugar or carbs.  I drank tons of water before my 2nd because the first time I had one, my blood was really thick and difficult to draw.  The instructions on mine just said no food or water after you finish the drink.

The 3 hr is the one you need to fast for, but you can still drink water, even after you finish the drink.

  • I never had to fast either, just don't eat anything sugar/carb-heavy about 12 hours before your test.
  • The assistant told me I didn't have to fast, so I had a low carb breakfast, drank the liquid and went in for the blood draw and they wouldn't do it. Said I had to fast for 3 hours before the blood draw (2 hours before the Glucola) I was so annoyed since I then had to come back a few days later to do it again. Of course, I proceeded to fail by a few points, so I had to come back a few days after that for the 3 hour (which I passed) I was so over that drink by the time I had it for the 3rd time in a couple of weeks. You can definitely drink water though - and I needed to in order to keep from being sick (I was still on Zofran at this point)
