Charting Questions

So I am still staying positive about this cycle, but if for some reason I still don't get a BFP I was thinking about starting to chart.

What do you do if yo wake up in the middle of the night do you take your temp then? Or do you take it again at your normal time?

I worry because sometimes I think I'm going to fall back to sleep but don't. For example, I usually get up at 5:30am but sometimes I wake up at 4:30 and can't fall back to sleep.  And if I can temp twice which one do I use?  Sorry for the rambling. TIA.

Re: Charting Questions

  • If I wake up but don't get up or move around too much, I just temp at the normal time. You are supposed to be sleeping for at least three hours. If I have to get up for some reason within that three hours, I mark "sleep deprived" on my chart. If you use FF for charting, they have a set of really helpful tutorials. Charting is not as much of a pain as you might think and it is so helpful. I'm still holding out for your BFP though!?

  • The rule of thumb is to temp at the same time every morning after continuous night sleep or 3 hours of sleep.  You obviously don't want to temp at 3AM if you don't normally get up until 7AM.

I always have to get up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom.   This morning it was 4:45 but usually it's between 2 & 3 but I won't normally temp at that time. However, I did this morning because I usually temp between 6:30 and 7 so I knew I wouldn't have enough sleep when I woke up again.

So if you usually wake up at 5 but this AM woke up at 4:45 I would have took my temp at 4:45.  Now if you woke up at 1AM, even if you had to use the rest room, I would go back to sleep and not temp until 5.

Hopefully I did sound confusing. Sleep

  • Check out the tutorials on fertilityfriend.com.  I think they are really helpful.  I started out temping at 6:45, but found that I almost always wake up between 5:30 and 6 so I have started temping at that time.  Also, I have found that if I wake up, but go right back to sleep, it doesn't really affect my temps that much. If you wake up at 4:30 and don't think you will fall back asleep, go ahead and temp at that time.  If you end up falling back asleep, then temp again at 5:30 and use that one. Hope that helps.

  • Thanks ladies, that is very good information. If I wake up anytime after 2 am I think I need to temp if it was supposed to be sleeping for the 3 hours prior. I think my chart will say sleep deprived a lot.
