Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Help - she's only quiet when attached to my boob.

She has been very very fussy, which is rare for my easy baby, since about 6 p.m. and will only be quiet if I offer her the boob. I'm pretty sure she is 60% nursing and 40% comfort sucking. I think she is going through the 3 week growth spurt and my nipples are suffering. How long does this growth spurt last?

Is there anything else I can do? She won't take a paci and doesn't like her swing....

Thanks!

  • Try laying her on her belly across your legs and bouncing her.  It always works like a charm with my boys.

  • Oh, I'm with you...waiting for people to help.  My ds hasn't slept more than 3 30 minute naps today-he usually takes several hour naps in which I have to wake him up to feed.

  • Keep trying with the paci, my lo didn't like it the first few times we tried. But it's really been a life saver for my nipples!
  • I'm willing to try anything. Thanks for the suggestions!

  • Mine is doing the same thing, glad I'm not the only onw. He was up all night and all day wanting to just eat and eat. Set him down and he screams....going insane!

  • my LO's 2 week growth spurt lasted 2-3 days and was very challenging.  my only advice is to let your LO nurse as much as he/she wants.  it will increase your supply and then things will be sooooo much better.  i honestly haven't had any experiences as a mom that have been as challenging as that first growth spurt.  but we got through it and you will, too.  you are doing great!
  • My DS still does this sometimes.  He has had a couple of nights in the last week when he wakes up and that is the only thing that soothes him.  He does not like a paci either.  He has the FP rainforest soother mobile in his crib and sometimes he enjoys that!
  • When we had an awful night like that at that age, I swaddled her because I was completely out of ideas and she immediately went to sleep. It was such a relief, she had been almost frantic about nursing non-stop, but there was nothing left.
