TTC after 35

Having a really HARD day

At my post-op meeting with RE, we did an antral follicle count and discussed my upcoming IVF cycle. He said that he recommends donor eggs due to my low follicle count and elevated FSH. We were hoping to do PGD to rule out chromosomal problems but he said that it's highly unlikely that my eggs would even make it to day 5 due to their poor quality. What a tough blow to take :(

Re: Having a really HARD day

  • I'm sorry.  That's really hard to hear.

There is a free teleseminar offered by Resolve tomorrow night about low ovarian reserve.  Don't know if that will offer any insight/thoughts.

I have a low antral follicle count (6-7 total both sides), but I do get GREAT quality eggs.  I just can't get them to stick (implantation problems).  Its hard to tell until you actually go through the IVF process.  Its an expensive experiment though.

  • How high is your FSH? You know, I think IVF is worth trying, especially if you have insurance to help cover it. My numbers aren't stellar either but I don't think I would've been happy if I ruled out IVF altogether without at least trying.

  • I am so sorry! ?I can only imagine how you must be feeling. ?Are you OOP for IVF? ?If you have coverage, I would still try once with your own eggs. ?

I am OOP, and we have our consult on Monday. ?I am scared out of my mind!

Good luck to you, and please let us know what you decide to do.?

  • Hi there, I am so sorry to hear you have to go through this. Good luck and keep us updated. (hug).

Thanks for everyone's supportive replies. My highest FSH is 11.3 and my antral?follicle?count was either 2 and 3 or 3 and 4. We are OOP but will continue with plans for IVF. I'll be on a microflare protocol and I know it only takes one good egg. I just need to get through my next 2 FSH tests and be under 15, which is their cutoff.?

  • I am sorry for the news and the tough day. I know that the whole process is stressful enough without rough news along the way. Wishing you the best. ::hugs::?
  • I'm so sorry.   Is that something you plan on doing (donor egg)?  If so, I wish you the best of luck.
  • I'm sorry!  We are hear for you to "talk" anytime!
  • Sorry to hear this. Hugs!

  • That must have been hard to hear. You might want to get a second opinion, just to see what another dr thinks. your numbers don't seem so bad that a successful IVF with your own eggs is out of the question.
  • I'm really, really sorry.  That is a very tough thing to hear.  If it was me, I think I would want to give at least a try with my own eggs first.  We are here for you!
