Does anyone know the general idea of when the child can decide which parent they want to reside with? I think 11 or 12 but not sure and I know each state is different.. just a general idea would help.
In Texas, I think it's 12. We've talked about it for my SD but we did not want to make her choose between her parents. I don't want to know how much therapy that would require!
The only reason I asked is when visiting the SD this weekend (see post below for rest of drama) she told us that she didn't want to go home to her BM and that she wanted to move with us... I thought it was at least 11 or 12 and I wonder if she would tell a judge that or if maybe she is telling us what she thinks we want to hear!
My SD has told Dh that she would like to live with us, but I think when it came time to officially decide, she would elect to stay with her mom. She certainly isn't in the same situation as your SD, though. You probably mentioned this in your other posts, but is she getting counseling?
Yes... we are waiting on CPS to give us a recommendation for who to see and I think during the course of the investigation they STRONGLY suggested that both BM and SD get counseling and BM talks like she will get this started.. so we are hoping to not have an argument in regards to this occuring.. our only concern is that with us being 1000 miles away, even if we pay, set it up and organize it, BM will not take her...

Best of luck to you.
