Anyone go swimming while pregnant?

This may sound dumb but I keep forgetting to ask my OB. I live in the Phoenix metro area and my pool should be warm enough in the next couple of weeks. Did anyones OB tell them no? My dh will obviously make sure the ph and chlorine is maintained, and it is a saltwater pool so not as harsh.

Any thoughts???

Thanks

  • You are fine, enjoy the water.  I was pregnant last summer and I lived in my pool it was so great on my back and muscles it was so nice to be so light and not have all the pressure.

  • OH, is the best feeling!! I love every minute of it. Such a relieve on the organs. Enjoy!
  • OMG, I LOVED swimming when I was pg!!!!!!!  It took all the weight off my back and legs and I felt like I could move freely again; my joints didn't hurt, it was the best thing ever.  Live it up, enjoy it, and do it often!!!!!!!  :)
  • I am always down at the beach and swimming in the ocean. So enjoy you time at the pool!! It is so nice and relaxing.
  • Absolutely!! I was given orders from my doctor to swim every day that I was hospitalized for PTL!!  We didn't/don't have a pool at home, so I wasn't able to swim often, but I did swim some. It was freaking awesome!

The only thing that would have kept me out of that pool in the hospital was if my water had broken.

  • Thank you ladies! I was thinking I wouldn't feel as heavy as I do now and would hopefully relieve the aches and pains temporarily. I just need to get some good SPF, let the water warm up a little more and I am ready to go!

  • I asked my OB because my hip pain makes it not so fun to walk for exercise and he said it was perfect exercise. ?Our gym has a heated pool and DH and I have been going once a week at least to swim some laps. ?I take it super easy, but I feel so great when I'm in the water and when I'm done - like I was actually doing something. ?

It's great - plus I feel so pale from this winter - the sun feels great! ??

  • Ditto the pp - I loved being in the water when I was pregnant.  Taking that pressure off your back and joints for a while was so nice - I felt like I could move again!!  Definitely swim and enjoy as much as you can.
  • Get thee to the pool!  My OB asked me at every appt once it got warm out if I had gotten a chance to swim, or even just to stand in some water to relieve the pressure and weight on my back and hips.  As long as your water isn't broken, hop in!  You will love it.
  • Yes, I went swimming several times.  My OB said it was one of the best activities for pregnant women.

  • I took a water aerobics class for pregnant women and it was so much fun!  My RE and then OB told me that the only exercise i could do was swimming/water aerobics and walking.  fun, fun
