UM, she just ate part of a graham cracker. Is that ok?

I was letting DD play with a graham cracker for whatever reason, chalk it up to another one of my bad parenting decisions. Well, she had her paci in her mouth and I figured as long as I watched her it would be fine. Well, me and my ADD decided to read an email and next thing I know the paci is out and the cracker is in her mouth. I took it from her and noticed that a huge chunk was missing and she was smacking her tongue, smiling away. Little stinker!

    You gave your 5 month old daughter a graham cracker to play with? Seriously? Is she even eating purees yet? I would not be happy about that, and would certainly not do it again, especially if it is a honey graham cracker.

    Yeah, not the wisest decision. Sorry.

    Nope, just a regular graham cracker. And yes, she has had purees. But no... no more graham crackers for her. She was sitting in my lap and kept taking it out of my hand so I figured "if it makes her happy". Perhaps a fake cracker from the Fisherprice Kitchen would suffice next time.

    You know what? She's going to be fine!! The biggest danger was choking and she clearly didn't. Of course, that is a danger so I wouldn't do it again, but for heaven's sake, honey? The amount of honey in a few crumbs of graham cracker isn't going to hurt her.

    Confused at the overreacter.

    she'll be fine.  she didn't choke.

    when S was 5 months, i let him suck on my blueberry (wheat!) bagel, and he swallowed some.  at least brooke has teeth!

    It's one graham cracker so I'm sure it's not that big a deal.  I wouldn't call poison control or freak out or anything...

    That being said, it's not ideal to have your 5 month old eat graham crackers so, you know, I'd stop giving them to her.  Or giving her anything that you wouldn't be okay with her sticking directly into her mouth.  Because sticking any and everything into their mouths and gumming stuff is every 5 month old's favorite hobby.

    Maybe it is just me, but I give a big "REALLY??" to the both of you. I think there are worse things she could have stuck in her mouth than a graham cracker. I wouldn't even consider this a "bad parenting move" and give someone crap for it. FFS. IT WAS A GRAHAM CRACKER. Perspective, you both need it.(The both being OP and the first reply.)

    I guess I should call poison control back and tell them not to come anymore? jk... I am still getting used to a baby that sticks anything and everything into that little mouth of hers! And since she has teeth, it didn't take long to break that sucker apart!

    Amen! I would watch her if i would have given her something but to go on about a graham cracker? really? At least it wasn't a cat turd or something...

    Seriously?Are they that bad for babies? DS LOVES them! He eats at least 1 a day and has never had a problem with them, just messy.

    He's been eating them since he was about 5 months.

    I should say that I wasn't literally asking if it was okay. I'm pretty sure she is going to be fine... I reacted much less than the time she shoved our dogs tail down her throat. BUT perhaps posting something like this on 0-6 would have been more appropriate since they understand me a little better?

    I was hoping all the overreactors were on 0-6 and I would get some freedom over here. I have a lot to learn...

    MMMM blueberries! If he has wheat allergies when he is older, it is all your fault.

    Jess - I don't think your post was that bad - it was clear at the end of it "little stinker!" that you weren't freaking out. I think the first responder is the overreacter. But yes, 0-6 board would've been better, probably. Once your baby passes 5 months it's hard to remember what it was like cause now they're like little people, rather than the helpless infants they once were!

    Yeah, it wasn't the graham cracker part that would have been bad, as much as the fact that it is something that crumbles fairly easily. I think anything of this consistency applies to the "probably not yet" rule. Although it was right after 5 months when our DD was already a pro at the high chair and had biter biscuits. But, all is well, and you can just chalk it up as another lesson learned! Cool
