This past summer at the OBGYN and again when I went to confirm my BFP I showed them the vitamins I was taking and they said they were fine for prenatal vitamins (I'm taking Equate Womens One a Day and then 2 separte folic acid tablets)
Now after reading lots of information on pregnancy everyone is talking about adding a DHA supplement to the mix.
Do you/did you take this while you were pregnant?
Is it something your Dr. reccomended or something you chose on your own?
Re: DHA supplement?! Do you take?
I do take a DHA supp. in addition to my multi-vitamin.
Lots of prescription prenantals have DHA in them now days... so if you didn't want to mess with taking something extra you could ask your ob for one of the new "combo" prenatal + DHA things.
I talked to my doc about it (when he tried to write me a prescription for prenatals and I told him I didn't want any b/c they all make me sick - I'll stick with my multi that doesn't hurt my tummy)...
He said the jury is really still out about how beneficial the DHA supp's actually are but that they definitely can't hurt anything... he said go for it. So, I take my multi, + extra folic acid + DHA supp. (called Expecta)
ETA: good info from kristen! i didn't know they had prenatals with DHA OTC! That's probably a lot cheaper than a name brand prescription.
I did take DHA while pregnant. MY OB recommended them. The Equate Pregnancy vitamins do have DHA now, though that's not what I took.
Congrats btw!

My OB said the same thing. "Trendy"... She doesn't like when fads like this hit... everyone takes them when not enough studies are done. Then they come back in 3 years and say the opposite.
If you choose to take them though, Expecta makes a non-fish DHA tablet that won't give you those awful fish burps!
