I was planning on getting a dresser / changing table combo, but now I'm starting to think that maybe that won't be a good idea, long term. I'd like to keep the baby's furniture for awhile, and I'm guessing a baby only uses the changing table part for a year or so. It would be silly for a 4 yr. old to have a dresser w. an attached changer, right?
Maybe I should just get the regular 4-drawer dresser and skip the changing table?? But then where do you change diapers - just on the floor w/ a changing pad??
Re: Dresser / Changing Tables
With DS we skipped the changing table - they're cute and all but useless after a few years....
We opted for a changing pad on top of his dresser - works perfectly.
DITTO! We are still changing DD on top of the dresser on the changing pad and she is almost 2. There is always the floor and bed.
This is what we are planning on doing.
for DS, we bought the davinci kalani dresser/hutch combo (if you google image it'll come right up). we just put the changing pad on top. then on the first shelf over the dresser part we keep a little basket with creams, brushes, qtips, some diapers, wipes etc. then in the cabinet down below we have the extra diapers and wipes, plus a bucket of water with some detergent to put babyfood bibs/blowout clothes to soak until we do laundry (we have a lock on it so DS can't get in).
we'll get the same thing for DC2.
We ended up getting a changing table. Being our first child, I don't know how long we'll use it, but its got shelving on the inside and I plan on using it as for books and toys and maybe put a plant or picture frames on the top when we/he will no longer use it for changing.
We have something similar to this:
That little changing table piece at the top detaches once you no longer need the changing table and you are left with a cute little dresser. I felt like this was a good option because I didn't have the room for both a changing table and a dresser, and I thought just a changing table would be a waste of money. I'm also going to get a closet organizer though, because the dresser isn't all that 'spacious'.
