2nd Trimester

Dresser / Changing Tables

I was planning on getting a dresser / changing table combo, but now I'm starting to think that maybe that won't be a good idea, long term.  I'd like to keep the baby's furniture for awhile, and I'm guessing a baby only uses the changing table part for a year or so.  It would be silly for a 4 yr. old to have a dresser w. an attached changer, right?

Maybe I should just get the regular 4-drawer dresser and skip the changing table??  But then where do you change diapers - just on the floor w/ a changing pad??

Re: Dresser / Changing Tables

  • With DS we skipped the changing table - they're cute and all but useless after a few years....

We opted for a changing pad on top of his dresser - works perfectly.

DITTO! We are still changing DD on top of the dresser on the changing pad and she is almost 2. There is always the floor and bed.

This is what we are planning on doing.

  • We used the changing table on the PNP.
  • for DS, we bought the davinci kalani dresser/hutch combo (if you google image it'll come right up).  we just put the changing pad on top. then on the first shelf over the dresser part we keep a little basket with creams, brushes, qtips, some diapers, wipes etc.  then in the cabinet down below we have the extra diapers and wipes, plus a bucket of water with some detergent to put babyfood bibs/blowout clothes to soak until we do laundry (we have a lock on it so DS can't get in).

we'll get the same thing for DC2.

  • We got a changing table with two drawers on it.  So after we're done with the changing table part we can put stuff on top and still use the drawers. Here's a picimage

  • Land of Nod has a great wooden changing topper that you can fit on any dresser, so you can use that until you need to - take off when you are done and you have a normal dresser again.
  • We ended up getting a changing table. Being our first child, I don't know how long we'll use it, but its got shelving on the inside and I plan on using it as for books and toys and maybe put a plant or picture frames on the top when we/he will no longer use it for changing.

  • we're getting a regular dresser and placing a changing pad on top. that way the baby can use as a dresser for years.
  • We got the dresser / changing table combo at Pottery Barn Kids.  The changing table portion comes off once the baby doesn't need it anymore and the dresser doesn't look babyish.  We wanted to get furniture that we can keep for a long time, not something the baby will outgrow.
  • We have something similar to this:

    image

That little changing table piece at the top detaches once you no longer need the changing table and you are left with a cute little dresser.  I felt like this was a good option because I didn't have the room for both a changing table and a dresser, and I thought just a changing table would be a waste of money.  I'm also going to get a closet organizer though, because the dresser isn't all that 'spacious'.

  • We just got the dresser and will put a changing pad on top, because of the same reason you stated.  It will be useless after a while and we wanted to keep the furniture for DC#1.
