Hi! DH & I will be in MO next month for about a week. Mainly near Columbia, but want to visit St. Louis some too. Any recomendations for a tourist? Thanks!
The STL Zoo is awesome...free to get in...children's zoo/train/etc. cost. Magic House in Kirkwood is awesome...it's more like a Magin Mansion now that they've added on again! Botanical Gardens, Butterfly House, Arch, etc.
All depending on what kind of fun you like to have, I suggest the City Museum. Awesome! Especially if you have kiddos.
You should eat at Cunetto's on the Hill (but expect a wait) - it is DE-licious. Best italian ever (in my opinion).
You could check out the Arch Rivals Roller Girls. It's a lot of fun if they happen to have a bout when you are in town.
Forest Park is really neat: within the park is the Zoo, the Art Museum, the History museum, walking trails, paddle boats, etc...(all free). Also, the Boat House restaurant in Forest Park is really cool. That is where you rent the paddle/row boats, and you can sit outside along the water to eat. It's a really pleasant atmosphere.
If you are up for a show or a concert, the Fox theater is awesome and the Pageant is a really cool concert venue. But, you'd have to buy tickets in advance.
If you just want an interesting area to walk around, people watch, shop, etc... - the Loop is good for that. There are restaurants, funky shops, funky people, etc.. Blueberry Hill is probably the most popular restaurant in that area.
If you want a bar atmosphere: Washington Avenue or the Landing are the two big bar-hopping areas. Wash Ave is a little classier, and the landing a little...well, a little more drunk.
I hope this helps a little and you enjoy your time in St. Louis!
