IKEA Boliden Chair instead of Glider?

Do you think this IKEA Boliden Chair would be a good alternative to the traditional, overpriced glider for the baby's nursery?

I like the look and PRICE of this much better. Just not sure if it would be as comfortable and appropriate for nursing, story time, etc. What are your thoughts?

Re: IKEA Boliden Chair instead of Glider?

  • It's cool, but I don't think it will be functional for nursing or rocking... it seems to bounce, I guess. ?And white may be a big mistake. ?

    Does IKEA have other alternatives??

  • My parents have 2 of these at their house and they are very comfortable!  They are also lightweight, and so they're very easy to move around!  I guess you just have to decide if you will miss the "rocking/gliding" motion.  These chairs bounce/rock a little, but not a whole lot.
  • The only "rocking chair" I see there is called the "Emmabo", but it doesn't have arm rests! ?The good part is that it's $20... talk about economical!?
  • it isn't my style... sorry

  • I bought the Lillberg rocker for like $125. Try searching for Lillberg (or is it Lillburg?).

  • I have been trying every chair I see out. I tried this one and one other (too low) @ Ikea, but they just were not comfy for me. I was imagining getting in and out and it was not appealing to me.
  • yeah, it's Lillberg... but it's $150
  • We actually went to Ikea just to test rocking chairs yesterday. I thought for sure I'd be bringing one home but for me ALL of them were too low and/or tilted back too far. I couldn't figure out how I would be able to get out of them while holding a baby! Also, I didn't think the tilting back position would be comfortable for nursing.

I would say definetly go in and try them out before buying one. They look cool in the picture, but sitting in them and usin g them for practical purposes is very different!

  • I agree that the Ikea chairs are deep, but I love how far back they go, but I like to sit Indian style when I have to be in one position for a while. I may be in the minority here. Is there a store near you? I had to order ours online, so luckily I like it, but you may want to try them out like PPs said.

  • I have had these chairs, and don't like them at all. I get very stiff sitting in them and they lean back too far, which would be very hard getting out of with baby. And sitting down in them almost feels like you're falling to the floor. I had a friend who had this chair too, and it actually broke! snapped right at the armrests. I would test them out first for sure!
