Jack has never had formula and i have never checked pricing at the store...where do you buy yours and how much does it run per can (approx?) and how long does it last? (This is for supplementing only for us, but how long does a can last for you?)
I got a bunch of sample cans of Similac Organic from our pedi's office. But I checked how much they'd cost at a supermarket - and it's $23/can. We're also supplementing, and one can lasts about a month. He has about 4 ozs of formula before bed, and about 2 or 3oz during the day - the rest is BM.
We get a big can of Enfamil Lipil at BJs and it's about $32-$35. We're still supplementing at this point, too. It's lasted us a varied length of time because some days he takes more formula than others. I'd say it last about 3 weeks, but DS eats a lot... hence the supplementing.
I use Similac and it is usually on sale for $22 a can and then I use a $5 coupon. We buy it by the case in liquid form for the daycare and it is $33/case and we use the $5 coupon but buy 2 at a time. The cases last a month, because we use it strictly for daycare. We buy the powder containers every week and 1/2. When I was supplementing only, it lasted about a month, which is the shelf life when opened. HTH!
Store brand was recommended to us from Pedi, we use Target brand equivalent to Similac and it's $16/can vs. $23/can for Similac brand. We EFF and go through a little more than 1 can/week.
The 25oz cans of powder (enfamil lipil) cost us about $26 at the grocery store or target. When we were supplementing it would last for 3-4 weeks. Depending on how much you are supplementing, the bigger cans at places like Costo or Sam's Club might not be worth it even though they are priced better. So start off with a smaller can and go from there - you'll learn your needs and then figure out if the bigger can will last you the month.
