Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Do you label your LO's stuff for daycare with initials, last name, full name, etc.?

Just curious.  I am thinking just the last name since I expect we'll use some of this stuff with later kids, you know?

Re: Do you label your LO's stuff for daycare with initials, last name, full name, etc.?

  • our daycare requires 1st and last name on bottles and food (along with date of milk pumped/bottle made), but everything else can just be last name (as long as there are no other babies with your last name in her class)
  • Loading the player...
  • how do you plan on labeling? when I worked in daycare, we usually used first names, but a lot of labels fall or wash off and are replaced often so if you planned to use them again, it probably wouldn't be a problem to use your LOs first name.

Also, are you leaving bottles there? I suggest taking a needle/thread, and putting a few stitches on the edge of the nipple. That way if other kids have the same ones, even though they'll all be washed together, you know your LO is getting hers. It was SOP is one center I worked in and the other it was just another way people "labeled" their items.

  • Just a permanent marker.  We didn't order stickers or anything.

  • another thing that worked well with bottles, is nail polish - a little on each piece (the ring, cap & bottle, not the nipple). That way if the written label (usually written in sharpie or those big smelly permanent markers) washed/scratched  off in the dishwasher (industrial) there was a way to know for sure who's bottle belonged to who.

That's a great idea!  Think I could do the same thing with her binkie?  I don't know if the sharpie will stay on the Soothie.

  • I would go w/last names bc someone else might have the same initials.
  • with marker, you can label her clothes/blankets with a last name and the staff will know who she is (and probably make a note of it for if they're out on any given day). --I'm assuming you're going to a center & not a home day care, so I'm sorry if I'm wrong.

She'll probably also have a cubby/basket with her full name on it to make it easy for the staff to keep her things together, so a last name won't be a problem.

  • No, you're right.  She's going to a center.  And they do have a basket for her.

with the soothies, we'd do the thread thing on the piece that sticks out. It really doesn't unravel & and if she decides to chew on the "handle" she won't be putting nail polish in her mouth.

  • Just a tip - Permanent marker washes right off the bottles (it might last through the first wash but it definitely will come off). I would look into waterproof labels for the bottles at least. For the pacis, we got those paci clips and wrote her name on the fabric of those. Oh and we use her first name, but there aren't any other babies with her first name there so if there were we'd use her last name.

  • We ordered Mabel's Labels for all of DD's daycare stuff (coats, gloves, cups, stuffed animal sleeping buddy, sheet, blanket, etc.) and even though they are a little pricey, they last FOREVER!!! I'm talking dishwaher, hand wash, and clothes washer & dryer. The marker comes off after a few washes -- these don't.

    Here's the website:

We order the largest pack and stick them on everything she takes to "school" with her.
