TTC after 35

new poster - a little freaked out

Hello, I've been lurking for a while but never posted. I guess I was hoping I would get preggo quickly and that would be the end of it. I am 36... been off BC for almost a year and a half but we didn't start "actively" TTC until last summer (I was traveling every week for several months, then hubby had surgery, etc.)  I've used OPKs off and on since about July and just started charting temps this month.

Went to the ob/gyn for my yearly exam yesterday and he was all over getting me checked out for fertility issues... doing BW on CD24 (progesterone?) - my cycles are longish and a little irregular, usually 31-35 days. More BW on CD3. That's it for now and he wants to see me again in a month to discuss the results, get the dye test (HSG?) set up and probably SA for hubby. I guess it's all good but definitely makes it all feel real. I of course am hoping we conceived over the weekend (timing was good) and all of this becomes moot!

This got long but I know this is a very supportive group so I wanted to share my mini-freakout. Thanks!

  • Welcome!  Hope your testing is not necessary!

  • Welcome.  This is a very supportive group.  I lurked for a while as well and have learned a great deal from some of the postings.

And, you're not alone.  I am still in the "hoping" stage, where I hope that I'll just get pregnant and I won't have to do anything else.  But, I have seen an RE and I've had an HSG and I just might have an FSH next month and the RE already talked to my husband about an SA.  So, we are taking steps in case "nature" doesn't step up.

All that to say welcome and I hope you'll be able to move on to one of the other boards real soon.

  • Welcome. I know how you feel. I was really hoping that when I consulted with the RE that they would laugh at me and tell me to stop worrying. When they didn't, it really became real. I am still hoping that maybe this month we'll get that BFP in the nick of time before we move on to and IUI next month.

Good luck, I hope you won't have to bother with all of that testing!

  • Hey there and welcome. You aren't alone in those feelings and I am glad you felt comfortable enough to post. We are all in this together.

Like Fran said, hopefully the tests won't be needed, but if so I think it's good to know what's going on hey?

     GL to you!

  • Welcome! Whatever the process, we'll all be here to offer support.
  • Welcome! It sounds like you are in the same stages as a bunch of us here. It is a great support to have others going through it all with you. I hope your stay here is a very short one!

  • Welcome. Mini freak outs and big freak outs are us. Really this is a great place for support and we are all in the boat together.

I hope all of your testing goes well.  I may be headed that way myself in a couple more months. But I'm still hoping for a BFP.

  • Hi and welcome!  Hope you get your  BFP soon.

On a positive note, at least your OBGyn is taking action and you now have a plan.  Best of luck to you!
