Proper office condolences?

My boss and his family had to remove his FIL from life support last night.  Talk about a hard hard evening, I can not even imagine!  :(  What would be a proper gift/offering from me?  I work in a super small office so it is just my boss and I.  He is an ex cop so is not really super touch feely emotional type, nor is his wife really.  Flowers?  Card?  Just let them know that I am here to support in any way?  I just feel HORRIBLE and want to do something to help.

Re: Proper office condolences?

  • How sad =[

This isn't quite a parent, but when my boss' grandma died, I sent him a nice flower arrangement.  On the card it said Our Condolences.  Please let us know it there is anything we can do for you.

  • I agree with pp - a card and flowers would be nice.  If they ask to donate to a certain cause you can also skip the flowers and donate and still send a card to them.
  • Agreed, a nice arrangement and simple card with your condolences.  It's not too "touchy-feely," but lets them know you are thinking of them during this difficult time.
  • I'd probably drop off a casserole - with a simple card.
