I have heard that a cloth-diapered baby will potty train earlier than a disposable-diapered baby. Can someone please explain why this is true and if you have experienced this? I don't understand the correlation.
Obviously, my kid is not there yet. But a CDs can help the toddler feel wet, which helps him learn faster.
The newer CDs have some great fabric that keeps the newborn and infant butt quite dry (really - DS's bootie is drier in a CD than in a disposable), but when you're ready to train them, you can use the diapers (usually prefolds, but other materials, too) that dont' soak up as much moisture. Thus the kid feels wet/uncomfortable, so they are more motivated to potty train.
Your bio says you're 25. Disposables were probably more commonplace by the time you were an infant. I'm 32 - disposables were around, but were *really* expensive, so my parents only used them for traveling.
People my age and older were (mostly) in CDs and potty trained well before age 2, which really makes me think that all of this "oh, he's just not ready" for 3 and 3.5 year olds is just a bunch of BS.
I also see you're in STL. Have you been to the Cotton Babies store in SoCo? It's across from st. Anthony's on Kennerly Road. (www.cottonbabies.com - click "shop local") They have "CD 101" classes once or twice a month. It costs $10, but then you get a $10 store credit at the end of the class. Even if you choose not to CD, there are a ton of other things you can spend your $10 on in there.

I had never thought of this but it makes perfect sense. According to my mom I was trained by 18 months and was cloth diapered. And I'm (nearly) 31. Hmm, food for thought.

Wow, thank you so much for all the great advice and knowledge! Yes, I have never known the generation of CDing. Like you said, children that old should not still be in diapers. My sister's 5 year old still wears Pull-ups to bed! Okay? I am afraid of this. Yes, I have seen the Cotton Babies store, I should start thinking more about this and go there. I would really like to CD but I am fighting my DH on this one, which is why I asked about potty-training. I am trying to persuade him. We have a small 2 bdrm condo and he thinks it is just going to smell all the time. That and he thinks I am going to contaminate the washing machine! Maybe I should bring him along to a class.
