New York Babies

NYC: Dr Vs. hospital(looking for suggestions)

I am only 10 weeks pregnant,in NYC, and an over 35 soon to be mom. I just started looking into where to give birth and found out that the doctor that I have been seeing , whom I do like a lot, is affiliated with a hospital that doesn't look like it is the place I'd like to give birth. He is affiliated with Lennox Hill, has anyone experience this hospital? My Insurance covers me at Lennox Hill, NYU,St Lukes, Cabrini...and a few others. My invisionment is to be in a LDR room, to be able to move freely during labor , to breastfeed immediately and have my baby in the room with me after birth (not off in a nursery alone!). Since Lennox website doesn't appear to promote anything of the sort I assume this is not an option there, so now I am thinking I have to find both a hospital and a new doctor..which makes me sad, stressed and anxious about making the right choices. Any insight would be helpful for this new mom to be. Thank you.

  • I personally dont' think you can go by a website to determine whether or not a hospital promotes those things.?

You will have to speak to your dr about your birth plan & follow up care while in the hospital. If after you speak to your dr, if you feel the same way then I'd ask your dr for a referral to someone/someplace that does support what you want.?

  • I'm due at the end of June and will be delivering at Lenox Hill.  Like you this is the only hospital that my Dr. delivers.  Lenox hill offers maternity tours thursdays and saturdays at noon.  i went when i was only 3.5 months pregnant just to see what they were like and was very pleased.  They seem to be very flexible and open to what you want in your birth plan.  Also ask your doctor for the Lenox Hill maternity care booklet.  It has more info. about what they have to offer and such.  FYI:  all their rooms are LDR and will allow the baby to room-in with you.  Take the tour and talk to your doctor.  Doing so definitely made me comfortable delivering there.  Good luck.

  • I delivered at NYU and had a great experience. ?My OB is at Lexington OBGYN- all docs were awesome! ?But I would say like PP, go do a tour and check out the hospital before you decide. Good luck!
