3rd Trimester

Urgent name/initials question--baby coming Wednesday!

We're having some eleventh hour debates on the middle name.

We both LOVE the name Drew Isaiah, but his initials would then be D.I.Q.

Would you go for it? (How important are initials anyway?)

  • how often do you have to initial documents?  either way it's DIQ or DQ (dairy queen)

def need to think about this stuff!

  • My initials spelled ARS (arse) before marriage and now they spell ART.

    My dad's are MRS.

It's been a ha-ha conversation piece that comes along every now and then, but it hasn't scarred neither my dad or myself.   Then again, I have no problem laughing at myself.

If you love the name?   don't worry about the initials...

I don't think the DQ is the bad part -- just pronounce it and you'll see her concern I think.  I don't think it's a big deal.  I asked DH and he just shrugged his shoulders and said he didn't think it was a big deal -- and added the kid could always say "why yes, I have a big one".  Nice.

Spoken like a true male... I can see DH saying this as well... it wasn't even something I thought about. =)?

  • Can you give him the first  name of Andrew and call him Drew?

  • IMO (unsolicited, I know), you'd be better off using Andrew and just calling him Drew.
  • Drew is our name too, but we're going to call him that as a nickname and name him Andrew for his full name.  You've probably thought this one through a million times though...we have.

My DH's name is Andrew and he goes by Andy. I like the idea of honoring my husband by using a version of his name, but we don't want LO to be a "junior." I know, won't make sense to everyone. It's just what we like!

  • I don't think it matters, but you could always name him Isaiah Drew and just call him Drew. I have a friend who's son is named Jonathan Drew and he goes by Drew. Smile
  • I didn't even understand the problem until I read the responses :)  I don't think yours is bad: we decided against Sophie Timiris because her initials would have been STD.   DIQ?  Not bad.

  • This is coming from the perspective of a person who had bad initials... They do matter.

Kids are mean. And they will use anything they can get to pick on someone.

I was going to name mine Bella, but her initials would've been BS. lol. So, I had to write off ALL B names...

I think it's better to choose a name that wont give kids amunition.

I think kinda far into the future though...

  • I think you should go for it- kids will always find something to make fun of each other about- if not this then something else, and this is pretty minor.
  • I don't think initials matter at all.  It's not like kids run around yelling their initials and making fun of other kids initials.  I wouldn't let it stop me from naming my child something that I really loved!
