date night sitter....

so I have not been out with my DH since I was 110 weeks pregnant :)  His lame office holiday party does not count.

I need a DATE!!!

What do you pay your "date night sitter"?  We pay our regular 15 an hour... but the babies go to bed at 7....  so from that time til we get home (10 or 11 tops) she would be watching tv or a movie...  not too strenuous...  i dont want to lowball someone... but really?  15 an hour for sleeping babies and watching tv?  that seems steep...  then again... i could be waaaay out of touch too!

    $15/hr seems high to me...But, considering minimum wage is $8something...maybe $10?

    How did you find your sitter?

    In my area, it seems like the going rate is $8-10, depending on the age and experience of the sitter.  I paid $15/hr for an adult sitter.

    I put up an ad on CL --  perfect for college or even a HS sr from the area...  we don't go far, and we arent out past 10 or 11 :)

    Some people are super over-qualified looking for some extra cash on weekends...  others are complete ass-hats  (one person asked if I would drop off my babies at her home is goodnessknowswhere because she has children who need to go to bed.....)  

    we'll see....  but goodness knows if i don't some adult time soon I'm gonna freak!

    This won't help but nothing... my mom babysat this weekend for our first date night since Sept 27 (DH's birthday, the day before my water broke!) It was so nice to get out.

     

    I would say that $10/hr is plenty.

    Unfortunately you are stuck if you hire your daytime nanny to babysit at night you have to pay her the $15 an hour the whole time.  If you can find someone else to babysit at $10 an hour then thats fine but you can't ask them to lower their rates just because the babies are sleeping.

    Thanks all ---   sorry i wasnt clear...  we are NOT having our daytime sitter do date night,...   mainly because she is a mom with her own kids and works hard enough for us during the week.  she also has MS and we dont want to fatigue her....  so we are looking for a separate date night sitter...  and hoping it will also be less $$$ than our daytime one!

    We pay $10 an hour and round the total up to give an even amount of cash.  We pay that for anytime of day, although typically we have a sitter during the evening.  That shift then involves dinner, bath, bed.
