How do you guys get regular? I'm thinking about starting on an activa regimen. It seems like I get really constipated but once I get past the road block then the flood gates just open up and I have diahrrea. So I would also like to find a way to get normal poops. What type of foods are usually best? I think I really need to start eating better and hope this will help me with my BMs.

Re: poop question. (can it be anything other then TMI?)
DItto on this...I am very interested in the answer...
I am so there with you!!! Up until yesterday I was totally backed up and started taking probiotic pills (the yogurt stuff makes me sick) and thought things were going to get moving. I started getting horrid gas pains/intestinal cramps and then had to wimper and cry in the bathroom until most of it was out - but I haven't pooped again today so I'm worried it's going to start again!!! If you find a solution, let me know!

So one of my crazy pregnancy cravings is dried mangos. They sell bags of them at Trader Joe's and I stock up on them. I am addicted. They have made me VERY regular. I would try for any dried fruits - they have a lot of concentrated fiber and are tasty. The other thing that helps me a lot is oatmeal. I have a bowl every morning for breakfast (not the instant kind, but the old fashioned). The heart healthy recipe has 3 grams of soluable fiber and that gets things moving as well. Hope that helps!!
I love Fiber One bars (oats and chocolate) and the Fiber One cereal (caramel) And I have a 64 oz insulated cup that I fill up every morning and drink throughout the day. (If you don't like water or are having a hard time drinking it, try adding fresh lemon juice.) It's also very good for your kidneys so it helps prevent UTI's. Depending on how my kidneys are doing, I squeeze anywhere from 1/2 to a whole lemon in my 64oz cup.
ps-if you up the fiber content in your food, it can cause gas the first few days. Either have the gas-x ready or increase it slowly over a week or two.
I have had "IBS" for ever (mostly constipation) so I've been battling this cycle forever and it hasn't gotten any worse since being pregnant, thank god.
For me, the ultimate solution was: daily excercise, water, fiber, coffee. I still do all the same. I eat Trader Joes Fiberful fruit leathers and Quaker Oats or Fiberful granola bars and one 6 oz. cup of joe in the a.m.- my Dr. said it's fine and if it keeps me regular, all the better. Also, if I don't go for 2 days, I take 3 Colace pills at night before bed and the next morning I have a normal poo (not "the 'rrea" as we call it at my house).
This regimine works great for me.
drinking lots of water, eating fresh fruit with skin still on, like peaches, pears and apples, and having the occasional big bowl of salad.. the lettuce gives quite the pain when it flows through but it almost always guarantees a dump. Either that, or Burger King. That also guarantees a dump.
I really did find that lots of water and 2 pieces of fresh fruit did it on a regular basis for me, as did changing PNV to one without iron.
