I'm trying to get rid of my bad habits and pick up some good ones before TTC. I started taking prenatal vitamins, and now I'm wondering if I need to start breaking myself of coffee all together? Can you drink decaf, or are you suppossed to switch to tea?
Re: Can you drink decaf coffee while pg?
You may want to read up on decaf first - a lot of decafs are made via a chemical process that strips the caffeine that isn't really great for you (pregnant or not). There are different methods though.
However, caffeine in moderation (which accounts for all caffeine in the day - sodas, chocolate, etc) is perfectly fine.
You also need to check the tea if you do decide to switch. Some forms of tea are high in caffeine and some teas are not recommended during pregnancy (green tea, for example, shouldn't be taken within an hour of a prenatal vitamin, as it can interfere with folic acid absorption. certain herbal teas are contra-indricated for pregnancy as well).
This is a great resource for these kinds of questions:
