Stupid Vent re: name spelling
UGH...I'm so annoyed.
I got an invitation to a baby shower in the mail this weekend and my name was spelled wrong (if you know my real name, it's spelled with an 'a' where there is traditionally an 'i').
It wouldn't really be that big of a deal except, the invitation came from someone I've known since MIDDLE SCHOOL!!! For the love of Gawd, I know you know how my name is spelled. I appreciate you being so supremely lazy that you couldn't be bothered to spell my name correctly.

That's what I was thinking. OR that person thought it was a typo when they saw your name on the guest list?
My co-worker is getting married in a couple of months. Its a small company, so we all know each (and their spouses) really well. We got our invitation and they didn't misspell DH's name, they put the wrong name altogether. It was made to James & Amy... my DH's name is Jason.
When I showed it to the groom, he said that they had been drinking a BIT of wine the night they addressed them!
On my RSVP, I responded for two people. In the comments section I wrote, "I will be bringing a date... James."
I would love to give the benefit of the doubt on this one, but I know who addressed the invitations because I recognize her handwriting.
And Rosie....honestly it doesn't really bother me that much when people spell my name wrong (it happens), but I guess I just expected more out of a "friend" who has known me for 10+ years.
lol - I'm used to it. I spell my name Ali. But some of my aunts spell it Allie, my best friend spells it Ally, and my cousin just calls me Al.
I can usually tell who is mailing me a card just by how they address it
I understand why you're annoyed, and I don't even have a non-traditional spelling of my name. I'm a Cynthia (that's how it's traditionally spelled, people!) and I get:
Synthia
Cinthya
Sinthya
Sylvia (?!?)
Sinthia
Cinthia
Cinithia
Cintha
Aw, I don't think that's a stupid vent. That would be annoying!
And Cia...just...wow...to some of those spellings. Wow.
Totally, completely, 100% agree with this vent!

Funny you should mention this. I had to go back to your blog to see how your name is properly spelled when I posted about you in our blog.
I'm sorry your old friend didn't think to double check.
I can totally relate because my full name and married last name always get butchered and I hate it.
