We have the Britax Decathlon seats for both of our boys. We did not purchase it until DS was ready to move out of the infant seat, and we went to BRU and plopped him a lot of seats and he seemed most confortable in that one. I also really like it bc the weight limit is quite high (65 lbs I think), so they can stay in it for a very long time before moving to a booster seat. The covertible 5 point harness is of course safer than the booster, so I want to keep him in it as long as possible.
We also have the Britax Marathon for our 2nd car, and its a great seat as well, I think it also can also be used up to 65lbs, but its a slightly smaller seat, so your kid might not be comfy in it up to the 65 lbs.
We're registering for a Britax Diplomat. After much research and playing with them in the store we decided this was the best fit for us. It has side impact protection, good/supportive padding, LATCH with extra tethers and anchors, 5 point harness with no-twist straps that easily adjusts, rear and foward facing up to 40 pounds, fits in a smaller car and its made in the USA. Those are the main reasons.
with my first i had registered for the britax marathon bc it was aaaallll the rage here on the bump. hated it and ended up returning it for 2 evenflo triumphs. it's just as safe as the britax seats, has better bells and whistles (you never have to rethread the straps and it has an easily accessible knob on each side of the seat near DC's feet so you can tighten and loosen the straps for the perfect fit everytime with no hassle). best part is it costs half what the marathon does (around $140). it rear faces to 35lbs and front faces to 65 (i believe).
we've had DS in it since he was around 4 months old (he hated the infant carrier by that point). we are all extremely pleased. i cannot for the life of me understand why the britax is so hyped up on here. all convertible carseats are safe if used properly....even the $40 cosco scenera is perfectly safe. it just doesn't have the bells and whistles.
It wil not be in the registry but we are getting 2 Evenflo Triumphs and 1 Cosco Sercena (spl?) for my moms car. My brother and SIL bought 2 Marathons and like PP said it is a !ing hassle!
We registered for the Britax Marathon. After researching them Britax came out looking like the safest. Along with the research I went by recommendations of people that we know. Everyone that I know has it and LOVES it. If they didn't start out with it, they soon switched to it.
We have a Britax Boulevard in each car. We will get two more when this baby is ready for a convertible. We read the reviews and just felt like this was the safest seat.
