I have... when I was pumping full-time at work, I found I could express milk just about as fast manually, it was just a lot more work. So while I used a pump most of the time, I wasn't afraid to manually express when the situation called for it.
I also forgot my pump once on a three-day business trip. My daughter was 15 months old by that point and only nursing AM/PM, so I didn't have to manually express for 8 sessions a day or anything crazy like that, but I was able to express enough to keep my supply up and engorgement away.
