I'm trying to break it down financially for DH about how cloth diapers are cheaper. It looks like our upfront cost will be $400ish and he seems kind of freaked out about that price, so I'm trying to show him how soon $400 can go with disposables.?
?
Ladies, how many diapers do you use a day? How many for a newborn?
?
Thank you so much for your help!!?
Re: I can has help? (re: diapers)
we have broken it down to about $10 a week in disposables. 12-14 in the beginning and about 8-10 a day now at 4 months.
hope that helps.
4 to 7 a day right now more when he was younger.
A diaper a day until they are a week or so old. Then count on 8-12 diapers a day for a while. Then it will go down. My toddler uses 4-5 diapers a day at this point.
What happens with cloth when they go up a size? There is no diaper service where I live.
A diaper a day until one week? We used 8-10 right off the bat. The baby should definitely be having both wet and poop diaper almost right away.
?
There's no service here either. We're using the BumGenus 3.0 which supposedly grows with the baby and fits 5-35 lbs. It seems like a good deal since this is our first and we can reuse them for the next baby as well, god willing.
We use cloth. We used cloth for our oldest as well.
I actually went with bumgenius one size this time around and they are awesome! Youngest ds has been in since about 2 months old. I tried them on my oldest ds (he is four and not in diapers, but I wanted to see if they fit) and they fit him great as well!
We have all of our oldest ds diapers from when he was cded, so other than the diapers we bought this time around, there was no need to buy them again.
I have to respectfully disagree with this- we changed 10-12 from the start and changed often when he wet. You buy the minimum number of diapers and covers in each size, as you would sposies.
I think she might have meant "a diaper an hour"
ETA: I guess I was wrong...yeah...you definitely will need more than one diaper a day
www.jilliandrawers.com has a program where you pay them um ... $150? ... and they'll send you a starter sample set. Keep what you like and send back the rest. If you don't like them at all, send them all back and they'll refund your money minus $10.
As for disposibles ... the box of pampers baby dry has 252 (size 1) and cost $40 at BRU or $36 at BJ's. We go through around 8 or so a day.
My older son is in size 6 pampers baby dry ... there are 128 in a big box and cost $40/$36 ... and one box lasts us one month.
I have a heavy wetter - in the beginning we went through 12+ diapers a day, now she does maybe 6. DiaperPin has a cost calculator for you to use as well...

Um this is SO wrong! You still have to change it even if it is just wet and with disposables or cloth! Please do not listen to this person!
I disagree as well. Fast track to rash and yeast infection. You were lucky.
We went through one every feeding with both girls. Never in my life have I heard of anyone letting diapers fill up a bit.
Do you stretch formula too?
Sometimes when Im on my period I let my tampon or pad fill up a bit and only change it once
