even though i like a lot of them, i won't use any S names because our last name starts with S and i hate alliteration (before getting married, initials were TCT and they are now TTS. i will not do that to my child).
are there any names you avoid because they begin with a certain letter?
or
do you just happen not to like any names that begin with a certain letter?
Re: letter you avoid when choosing names?
oh i know exactly what you mean. i grew up with a girl whose ENTIRE family (including her mother's maiden name) had MM as initials. really annoying.
HaHa! I used to nanny for a family who's initials were all SS. That included both parents and all 5 kids! Talk about confusing! Even the dog's name started with a S!
I don't think we avoid any letters, but I'm just more drawn towards certain letters... A, J, M... who knows why. The only letter I guess I'd like to avoid (even though I like names that start with it) is B. My kids - certainly the first one - will have a J middle name. BJ? Not ideal.
Like you, I also don't care for alliteration in names. Every so often it sounds alright, but frequently, I think it's cartoon character-ish.
I also don't like names where the first name ends with the same sound/letter that the last name starts with. For example, Brandon Nichols, Parker Reynolds, Daryl Leary. These can be hard to pronounce when spoken quickly, and the first & last names can tend to run together.
So, for us, that leaves out any names beginning or ending with "R". I wasn't too heartbroken over the "R" names, but I am sad about not using a name that ends in R - I like SO many of them, especially Parker.
As far as letters I like, my favorite letters are "L" and "M" - just because I like to write them!
Our girl name was Lorelai... I love L names!
