Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Dumb ? about solids.

I'm no where near staring DD on solids just yet, but I have a dumb question.  Once you do start them on rice cereral, or whatever, when do you actually feed them the solids?  Before nursing (or formula), or after?  If you do it before, do they get fussy cause they want "real" food, or if you do it after, are they not interested because they just ate?

I'm stumped. Tongue Tied

Re: Dumb ? about solids.

  • I'm currently reading Super Baby Food in preparation of starting solids in a month and a half.  She recommends either feeding first solids half-way through a breast or bottle feeding or between two feedings, say an hour before the next.  She also suggests morning or afternoon so you'll have time to monitor baby for allergies.  HTH

  • We give DD solids before her bottle in the evening.  I was worried that she wouldn't eat the solids if she had a bottle first.

  • We're doing one feeding of rice cereal a day right now. We do that (about 1 teaspoon of cereal with 3 teaspoons of prepared formula), followed by a bottle of formula.
