DD was face up when I went into labor, which led to severe back labor, and 3 1/2 hours of pushing. The nurses said I was lucky I didn't end up with a c-section. Did anyone else experience this?
ME!!!! DD was sunny side up and I had horrible back labor that even an epi didn't conquer! I only pushed for a 1/2 hour but the nurses and dr. were amazed at how fast I pushed her out. I mean when they called the dr after only 20 minutes of pushing he did not believe the nurse that I was ready for him...they also told me I was lucky to push for so short and to not need a c section... After 20ish hours of labor I was getting her out as fast as I could. I sometimes regret pushing so hard now when I am going to the bathroom and feel the constant reminder in the form of painful hemmorhoids.
Also, poor DD was all bruised on her face from coming out the wrong way and her face pushing up against my pelvis. Poor little girl!
Yep, and even with my epi I felt my back labor. I did end up with a c-section though. His position was putting the wrong kind of pressure on my cervix and it was actually starting to swell so my "progression" was actually regressing.
I did, and pushed for 3 hours. I also had bad back labor in the last couple of hours or so. We ended up with a vaccum and episiotomy, but she finally came out! For the next few days in the hospital (we needed to stay a little extra because I was on antibiotics for other reasons), she was "the baby who took so long to come out."
I did. I pushed for 2 hours, but she was completely wedged in behind my pelvic bone so I wound up with a c-section. My total time from induction to birth was 23 hours.
yes, pushed for 30 minutes and didn't feel any differently than my DD except that there was a bit of pain from contractions in one spot (don't even know if this relates to his position or not...just didn't have that with DD). Nobody told me until after he was out that he was SSU. TMI but DH said it was very weird to see his lil face all smooshed as I would pushed.
yes and no..40 hours of back labor, 3 hours of pushing, and she came out facing sideways so not completely SSU. the real kicker was that she turned her head a different way with each push, so the MW couldnt manually turn her.
Mom to 2 beautiful girls, 3 yrs and 22 months old. My 2nd was born at 32 weeks due to Rhogam failure/severe complications from Rh disease and is our miracle. She has bilateral auditory neuropathy and a cochlear implant, activated 4/5/2012 at 19 months.
Yes! The back labor totally sucks---I thought my epidural wasn't working. After 2 hours of pushing, I had a c section because she wasn't moving down. They were trying to have me push her down so she could be turned but it never happened. It was kind of rough to get a c section after being in labor.
oh yea! after 1 1/2-2 hours of pushing he came out. i had severe back labor in my left side that the epi didn't help and my right side the epi didn't work in the front...so it sucked all around! i should have just not had it! AND the nurses kept upping my pitocin so my contractions were on top of eachother...absolutly no break inbetween them (ok...not more than 30 seconds break) i had a midwife and we were flipping me all over the table getting him out of me. she would hold ice "down there" between pushes because i was sooo swollen. he was like a 1-2 on the apgar scales when he first came out...and even though it took forever he still was full of fluid that took forever to come out (she worked on him for like an hour sucking it out...and it still wasn't all out)
YES!! 2.5 hours of pushing, a vaccum, an episodomy, and a 3rd degree tear later DD arrived! Surprisingly she looked like a Csection baby with no scratches or disformed!

Yes! HORRIBLE back labor for me. I was in labor for 16 hours total - 90 minutes pushing and the cord was wrapped around her neck.
I tried doing a bunch of inverted positions to get her to turn around and she finally did right before I was ready to push. I could not have gotten through that labor without an epi. My back still aches when I think about the contractions.
Yes!!!! I had back labor for about 5 hours before I got my epidural. Thankfully she turned at about 6 cm [I actually felt her turn inside of me, it was really weird, but after that I progressed really fast and was at 10cm within the hour]. I still pushed for 1.5hrs but I'm sure it would have been a lot longer if she hadn't turned herself. I was concerned about a c/s because sunny side up babies can get stuck in the pelvis.
My next pregancy will be spent doing exercises to hopefully help baby #2 get and stay in the right position!! I never want to experience back labor again!

Pushed for a little over 2 hours - was in labor for a total of 16 hours. Poor girl had a horrible conehead and bruised face but looked perfect in less than 24 hours

Yes! I only pushed for 25 minutes though, thank goodness. He turned slightly as I pushed so he wasn't completely SSU. However, I still have pubic bone pain from his position. Back labor is the absolute worst!
DD was face up. Labor itself wasn't so bad. My water broke at home and by the time I got to the hospital I was already 6cm. But because she was sunny side up with a big head, she got stuck and her heartrate dropped. Very scary. I was ready to push but instead was raced down the hall for a C section.
Yep, Ow. Choppy sentences bc he's eating and I just have one hand free...
Afternoon before, he was faced the right way, as I expected from all of the exercises I did to do my best to ensure that. Woke up with first contrax, back labor. Grrr.
From first contrax to hospital where I was 4cm, 8 hours of back labor.
2 hours later, I was 10cm, then 4.5 hours of pushing, many positions, all back labor, no epi, with double and triple contrax, so, few breaks and once he got to +1 station, he never progressed more, but they could see him bulging, joy.
Did an epi then to relax me and the MWs tried to get him to turn. No turn. Pushed once on the epi and his HR went down to 60 from 140 and would only raise to 90 with me in a contorted position. Consult with OB that he was too wedged for vacuum. C-S. They said no way would he have come out unless he turned. Big bruise on his forehead that I can still see when he cries in a certain way.
16 hrs of no drugs + 1.5 for epi and C-S, then another hour to get sewn up.

I am hoping the next one comes out right side up.
