XP: The boys may have RSV :(

After all those month of trying to prevent it. Yesterday was their last RSV shot and I was so happy because they really hurt and also really expensive. It started on Wed nite both had a little cough. Yesterday they Doc listed to their lung and everything was clear. Last nite was a mess. They couldn't sleep, very congested and could barely breath. Gaven slept on my chest (yes, w the helmet, I didn't sleep) and Chris on DH chest. Today when I picked them up from IL, they sounded very congested and wheezing. I called the Doc and they saw me at 5:30 this afternoon. The doc said that it probably is RSV but they are not testing since they are both taking the meds and also they need to be on the nebulizer anyways. So, every 4 hrs we have to do treatment for 24 hrs, tomorrow we have to go back to have them checked again. What are the freaking odds that they get it at the end of the season while getting the last shot. My poor babies are miserable, I hope they get better soon. zeidy

  • I swear that RSV shot is not all it's cracked up to be!!  The majority of people I've spoken with who's LO get the shot all say they get sick within 3 days of getting the shot, often with RSV like symptoms.

  • I hear you! I feel the same way about the flu shots. Oh wel!!
  • The CDC has a website (can someone post this as I can't find my link) for all the states.  It depends on where you live and the climate.  In Maryland it's from November to March and in Florida it's all year round.  But the RSV season is really all the time everywhere because it's a really strong virus and can live a long time on clothes and objects.
  • I do not know much about the virus and really have not been too concerned.  Although, now that we have a preemie...and still in NICU.  I might need to inquire about the virus and how to protect Brenden.

  • i swear there is a healing power in sleeping on mommy's/daddy's chest.  My lo had  horrible congestion last week and she slept on me...when she was on my chest she could breath fine.....take her off stuffed up!

Hopefully the shots will have done something and make this a mild case!  Good luck....try to get some rest!

  • SERIOUSLY...what the heck did that shot even do for them? What a waste of time and $$$ and pain for the poor boys.

I wish them a swift recovery, I'll be thinking of you guys.

  • We just went through this with our Lily last week, they said she had RSV that had turned into bronchiolitis, she was also sent home with a nebulizer. I thought too, what are the odds, it's finally March and we had made it all winter with not even a cold. The good thing is the cough went away within 5 days of using the nebulizer, the bad thing, it developed into an ear infection and yesterday she got the flu, 12 hours of vomiting and puking. I feel so bad for her, she has been sick now for 2 weeks. Hopefully this is the last of it.
