I haven't had even a moment to post about the early arrival of our son. He was born on March 11 at 37 weeks. He has been an incredibly easy baby. We have yet to really hear him cry, other than a few seconds here and there. I think that has something to do with being a very young full term baby--he's still very much in a sleepy phase. He is nursing and sleeping very well.
Katy LOVES being a big sister--sometimes a little TOO much. My DH has started referring to her as "Lenny." Anyone who has read Of Mice and Men will understand why.
Labor was super easy. I woke up just after 1am and contractions started about 10 minutes later. I timed contractions for about 35 minutes to make sure they wouldn't go away. By that time, they were 6 minutes apart. I called my mom at 1:45am to come stay at our house with Katy while we went to the hospital. She and my dad must have chosen to take a slow boat to our house because after 1 hour 15 minutes, they were still not at our house. (They live 45 minutes away) Contractions were 2 minutes apart by then and we live 30 minutes from the hospital. We packed up Katy and left a note on the door for them to come get Katy at the hospital.
We got to the hospital at about 3:30am. They took me straight up to triage and did an internal. I was between 7-8cm so rather than register me, they threw me on a bed and ran down to L&D. I was GBS positive so it was a race to get the antibiotics in. As a matter of fact, even though I was 9cm at that point, they allowed me to have the epi anyway, because they were hoping it would buy time so that I could get at least one bag of antibiotics into me. After the epi was started, I "relaxed" for about an hour. By then, I felt a ton of pressure and called the nurse to let her know I had to start pushing. I pushed on the first contraction and baby was RIGHT THERE. My OB told me not to push on the next contraction so he could try to stretch me out to avoid tearing. I still couldn't feel the contractions, just a lot of pressure. The OB asked me to wait through a second contraction and that contraction alone, without any pushing by me, was enough to push DS out. DS was born after just under 4 hours of labor. He weighed 6 pounds 3 ounces and was 19 inches long.
We have named him James Joseph. James was DH's dad and Joseph is after DH's favorite uncle. (He passed away 20 years ago). We didn't realize it until DH called his aunt, but our James Joseph was born on Uncle Joe's birthday. DH's family is over the moon about our name selection.
7 days post partum, (2 days ago) I had to squeeze my fat bum into a non-maternity size 2 suit to leave my sweet boy so I could fly to Philly for a job interview. (That's another whole post.) Thankfully, the interview was at an airport hotel so I interviewed and got right back on the plane so I was only gone for 6 hours. They told me at the end of the interview that I am the strongest candidate and the job is "mine to lose." I have had 6 interviews so far for this one position and have about 4 more to go, by the time all is said and done.
So anyway, that is pretty much my life for the last 9 days.
What's going on around here?
Re: Anybody around to hear my good news?
Congrats!
What a crazy story - so glad to hear you have a happy and healthy baby
Congrats! As I was reading, I glanced down and saw my dad's name in your post. My dad's actual name is James (first name) Joseph (last name). So I approve of his name! Congrats again! Hope everything goes well!
