Babies: 9 - 12 Months

If your LO pops on and off the breast while BFing...

At what point do you give up and close up shop, so to speak? It seems DD will only stay on for a few minutes, including when I let down, and after that, it's on and off, on and off, totally distracted by everything. She'd do it forever if I let her. Just wondering if anyone has a time limit for feedings like this...

Re: If your LO pops on and off the breast while BFing...

  • My daughter did that at about 8-9 months and it wasn't long after that I didn't have much going on in terms of a feeding. I dried up soon after because she self weaned. She was just to distracted with whatever was going on around her, which wasn't much (in her room), to have a full feeding. We eventually just stopped all together at about 10 month.

  • Depends on what is going on- if I am annoyed with it or not ;)  Sometimes I have to put a blanket over her face so she isn't so distracted.

I have no time limit, but is she keeps popping off to eat my arm I am done with feeding her.  If she pops off because someone walks in the room or the dog barks, I let her eat more.

  • I give her 3 times. Then i put it away.?
  • I am dealing with that now, and in turn, we are weaning. I work ft, and he just prefers the bottle more at this point.

It's not a supply issue right? I do know our babies are really distractable right now. It's even hard feeding him a bottle.

    GL.

  • DD has been doing this alot lately.  If she's really hungry or we're in a quiet room she won't as much.  But, if I'm not busy I will let her go on for 15 minutes or so and then try again later.

  • Ugh, DS was doing that a couple of weeks ago. ?I've started weaning him now and since he's only nursing 3 x a day he's much more serious about it. ?We're having a hard time getting him to take a bottle of milk or formula so I think he's making up for it by nursing longer each time.

It is super annoying though, I hear ya. ?Not sure what the answer is.?
