  Was he diagnosed with a true rapid flu test and/or culture?

  Is he being treated? (Tamiflu or an other antiviral?) If started within 48 hrs of symptoms it can reduce the length and severity of the illness (although this year's flu, esp Flu A, has been quite resistant to tamiflu)
  
  Honestly I would not go any earlier unless you can get him re-swabbed and show he's cleared the virus. Newborn + flu exposure = recipe for disaster. Seriously. In January I took care of a 12 day old w/ the flu who ended up with an empyema (pus b/w the lung and the chest wall) and had to go to surgery. The flu can be absolutely deadly to an infant. Obviously that's not most cases, but I have seen it happen.

  Come October your baby will be old enough for a flu shot. I highly recommend you, the baby, and your H get it next fall.

  (Not trying to flame you b/c I know several people who still got the flu despite the shot this year; the predictions weren't very accurate, but it's still worth doing to potentially protect yourself and your family)

  i dont know if they did a swab but the dr gave him tamiflu...
