3rd Trimester

Went on L&D tour last night...

And I was a little overwhelmed! First off I hate hospitals, so when DH and I were walking into where I would go if I was in labor I started to get a little nervous, DH had no clue. I settled myself down and we went on the tour. I was fine until we saw the room that I would be in for the delivery. I sat there looking all around thinking oh my god I have to push this thing out of a tiny hole!!! The bed freaked me out with all the contraptions that it has for pregnant women. I was sitting there picturing myself laying there giving birth.

Is anyone else freaked out about giving birth???? I?m really wishing that this little girl just falls out of me :) I know wishful thinking

Re: Went on L&D tour last night...

  • Now I just have this picture of a baby just falling out of me in my kitchen one day....that would be awesome.

However, I have just started to NOT freak out about the delivery.  All I can think about it all the crap I won't know when I have to bring the little one home....crap.

  • Hospitals only made me nervous because of their high c-section rate.  We decided to go to a birthing center instead.
  • I've been over to L&D a few times: once for an actual tour, once when doing the pre-registration, once for monitoring.  We also swing by the nursery sometimes after OB appointments (they are right down the hall).  It actually freaks me out less the more familiar the place becomes.  Then again, the rooms at my hospital are really family-friendly.  Most of the medical stuff is in the closet or hidden behind pictures.  It's all there if it's needed, but isn't out in the open to scare you every time you look around.
  • When we went for our tour, I told him that I was so glad that we had gone to all the baby-related classes at the hospital because it did alot to curb that fear of hospitals gut-reaction I think most people have.  Since we had already been there quite a bit, I wasn't nearly as freaked out about everything to come.

But yes . . . there's just no good way for a baby to come out!

  • im ok now but when we went on the tour and i saw the delivery room, my head started spinning....i was surprised i reacted that way....now im just nervous because induction is scheduled... unless he comes on his own in the meantime
  • You might not end up needing the bed contraptions.  Both times I delivered, I did it on the bed, as it was.  They never put the stirrups up or anything, I was just on the bed.

I love my hospital, so I'm actually looking forward to being there.  Not looking forward to the actual birthing part, but I'm pretty excited about my little vacation to the hospital where people will bring me food and my other 2 kids and DH won't be there and I can send the baby to the nursery and take a strong sleeping pill and get a good sleep.  Not that I've been planning it out or anything.....  :-)

Most of the "medical" stuff at my hospital is hidden behind pictures.  If you need oxygen, they pull up a picture and there's all the stuff.  I guess they don't want you to see it beforehand.  But, the bed.....I've never seen the stirrups....I just delivered on the bed the way it was.
