Rancid smelling thawed milk-high lipase

I'm so frustrated. I'm going on a 4 day trip late next month where I'll be away from my baby.  Tonight I broke into my frozen milk and it smells rancid.  I know I froze it before it had a chance to go bad and it has been in the chest deep freezer (it's the sole reason we bought that freezer).  DS still drank it before I realized the smell.

Does anyone know if it is okay to feed to him if he takes it?  I have HUNDREDS of ounces in there from the early days when I was over producing and I really don't have the time, supply or desire to try to pump and scaled enough milk for the 4 days I'll be gone.

Also, how often should I pump while gone to keep up my supply?  DS will be almost 8 months when we leave and will probably be eating 3 meals of solids (right now he eats 2 meals)  Right now I only pump once a day and that is sole to keep DS taking a bottle when necessary.

  • According to kellymom.com nutritionally the excess lipase doesn't hurt anything so as long as your DS drinks it you are fine.

  • as pp stated- if baby drinks it, its good to go.

if baby snubs it- you have to take the steps to scour the milk before freezing it.
