Love the meaning just not the name. This name actually gained some popularity when Catherine Zeta Jones named her daughter this. I think it looks like its pronounced "carries" so if you did go with it, you'd probably hear the unfamilar use that pronounciation. Are you welsh and trying to honor heritage or do you just like the name/meaning?

I'm really happy that some people like it! I know that it is your decision what you name your child but I don't want her to hate it! Everywhere that I have looked, they pronounce it like Paris with a C. The Welsh might pronounce it CAR-is but they pronounce their a's different than we do.

More than anything, I want to honor my great-grandmother who was born and raised in Wales, her name is Jessica and my brother is naming his daughter that. Thank you for your opinions!!

I really like that name! There might be some mispronouncing, but it's really not that big of a deal. I grew up with people mispronouncing my name all the time (it's Kellyn - like Helen, but with a K) and I really like my name. If anything, I have some really funny sotries about the different ways people have said it.

I pronounced it like carries when I saw the post. She'll probably have some people mispronounce it but everyone in your family will know the correct pronunciation and so will her classmates after the first year so it won't be that big of a deal.

It's one of my favorite welsh names. (DH is from Wales so I always keep an eye out for them.) I think it's soft and simple and really pretty...and so many Welsh names are not!

It's not my style...but I'm not using it. To me it sounds like CarrieS with the S sound on the end. It also sounds incomplete to me...like it should have more to the name or something. JMHO.

Even though it's a Welsh name, it still follows the basic rules of English pronunciation so I honestly have no idea how people could mess it up. A "y" typically has a short "i" sound unless it comes at the end of a word or has the letter E before it, in which case it takes on a long "e" sound (like in the name Ashley). Carys should be pretty self-explanatory.
