Breastfeeding

When you started solids...?

How much did your LO continue to nurse or how much expressed breastmilk did LO take once on solids? I know I have a while to go, but just wondering what I have to look forward to when introducing solids at 4-6 months (prolly closer to 4 bc he is a hungry little guy!). Does the amount of milk they take continuosly decrease as they reach 1 year and beyond?

Re: When you started solids...?

  • BM should continue to be the main source of nuturition for the entire first year.  Solids are a compliment, not the main source.

DD is almost 7 months and has been on solids about 5 weeks.  His BM consumption has not really dropped.  He gets 6 feeding (2 bottles of BM, the rest nursing) and in addition he gets solids 2 times per day - once after his mid-morning feeding and again for dinner.  His 2 bottles are 4-5 oz each.

Thanks, I havent gotten around to reading about BF when baby starts solids. Is it the same with FF as well? Formula would be the main source and they would still get the same amount of milk a day?

  • DD nursed 8x a day (every 3 hours around the clock) until she was 12 months old.  We started solids at 6 months.  The amount of expressed bm she took at daycare went up from 6-9 months.  She was up to 6oz/bottle at the most.  I started converting her to a sippy cup at daycare around 10-11 months, and those cups were 4-5oz.
