I sincerely am not trying to flame anyone. You all seem like very good, attentive, caring mothers. And even if you do the thing I'm about to write, you're still good moms, I promise.
BUT it drives me crazy to see moms putting sunscreen on their kids when they arrive at the park or pool. Sunscreen doesn't just immediately take effect. It takes 15-30 mins for it to "activate." Since you knew you were coming to the pool, why not apply the sunscreen before leaving your house? It'll save your child some unprotected time in the brutal Arizona sun, especially when you're at the pool and the sun is reflected back at them from the water?
Yes, it's good that you're putting it on, and it's better late than never, but still
(And I'm sure these same parents, who DON'T see me putting sunscreen on DD, think I'm a terrible parent.)
::stepping off soapbox::
Re: A silly, pointless vent
I swear, I didn't mean to make anyone feel bad! It's good that she gets sunscreen, and the long-sleeved suits are great! I guess because I burn so easily, I'm a little sensitive about it.
I reallllly didn't mean to hurt your feelings!
By the way, are you still up for a zoo trip? My company has left and we just got our zoo cards in the mail today.
Crazy stuff, huh? I'm most definitely real - and DD is pale from constant use of sunscreen!
Page me when you get back and we'll find a date!
that's me too...
My line of thought has always been that it would rub off on her carseat, so I try to apply it when we get there.
FWIW-- also the queen of the long sleeved bathing suit (a MUST her in AZ, I think we can all agree), hat, and DD has never burned. Thankfully she has my skin. Her daddy-o burns just thinking about going outside.
The last thing I want to do is pin my son down and slather him before going in the pool. I do it at home right before we leave.
I am friends and have been for about five yeas with a group from The Knot days. We were all destination brides except one who found us after we ventured over to The Nest. We talk on email and have get togethers a few times a year.
Please don't let a couple bad experiences jade you from what can potentially lead to great real life friendships.
I put it on before I put her bathing suit on and then when we get to where we're going.
So, on the outside, I would look like one of those moms. But really I'm not.
I didn't realize it took that long to "activate." Sometimes we do it at home, sometimes we do it at our location.
Thanks for the tip Brightning. I always like to learn something new.
It says is right on the back of the lotion bottle ladies! Hehe..
I am guilty of doing that half the time, but that it when we do not plan on her being outside so i run in and grab some.
I always do it before we leave for all these reasons!
LMAO! You are sooo funny!! Well now that you are off the box, I can say I am SOOO one of those Mom's! I actually know it says on there that you should do it ahead of time but I guess I just assumed it was one of those things they print but you really dont "have to"! Sounds maybe stupid to say outloud LOL
PLUS I always feel like it'll wipe off on her clothes or the carseat, etc. SO I just always put it there...BUT IN MY DEFENSE.....(LOL) We are (to date) sunburn free so it cant be too terrible
