getting started with CD prenatal...?

Hi ladies,

I've posted here before just a few times, but the diapering info has been great so far...thanks!

My thoughts are to start right off with CDing but not sure where to start. It seems like there are a ton of options out there and my guess is that once we start with diapering we'll find out which brands work best for us.

I noticed there is the trial from Jillian's Drawers which seems like a great idea. What else though?

Are there certain brands/styles that are a bit more user friendly for a CD newbie...and 1st time parents? (ie, as easy as possible)

Is it worth registering for CDs....not knowing for sure what will work for us? Are there other good registry/online stores for CDs besides Jillians Drawers? If you had an online registry did many people shop from it?

I've been researching diapers for awhile, and actually bought some

We got our first newborn fitted's the other day. They are so freaking tiny! My plan is to buy used CD's when I can find a good deal, and build a stash that way.

We used Kissaluvs, size 0's (KL0's) for the newborn stage. They worked wonderfully for us, and were very easy. We did a diaper trial from www.sunsehindiapers.com and while it was nice (didn't have to worry about having a stash built up, everything was ready to go, except for a final wash, didn't have a lot of thinking to do, not a lot of stress about if we'd like them or not, etc.), if I could do it again and had some time, I'd probably try to buy them used or on sale elsewhere so I could have them for #2 or could resell them afterwards.

They were incredibly easy to use, and worked wonderfully for us!!!

I ordered a Kissaluvs size 0 trial package from Nell's Natural Baby. I thought it would be easiest to use a trial package. I've picked up a few larger sizes here and there just to start building up a stash, but mainly I want to wait until he gets here and see how it goes. I admit, I have almost no clue what I'm doing yet.

Well, we knew we were going to CD no matter what, so we weren't shy about buying our stash before DS was born. I'd read on every single site that KL0's were the best newborn diapers, so I felt very comfortable building up my stash with mostly those. (I didn't regret it) I added a few other things that I found used or cheap just to try out. Those were a couple of XS BG AIO's (I loved them for newborn stage, but they take too long to dry when they're bigger).

We just sold our nb stash on diaper swappers when we were done, or if I found something that didn't quite work out the way I wanted it.

But, I would say that you would be more than safe going with KL0's and covers. We used Bummis Super Whisper Wraps and some wool. I like Luxe interlock. By the way, Bumkins covers BLOW. They are a total waste of money.

We'll be CDing from day one. I'm going to get 12 KL0s, 12 Green Mountain prefolds, a smattering of covers (mostly thirsties), and a couple of AIO or pockets. This way, we'll be able to figure out what style of diaper we like - and I'm starting heavily with the prefolds because I figure we might as well start with the least expensive option.

I've been checking in with a local consignment shop that sells diapers. So far I only have a thirsties cover and a thirsties AIO, but I'll go back soon. I've also been looking at craigslist, but have been too lazy to make a move. We're registering for diapers as well - I thought about Jillian's Drawers, but decided to just add them to the myregistry.com registry that I already had going. My shower hasn't happened yet, so I don't know if people will use them or not. I think a couple of other stores have a registry. I know Amazon does, which has quite a few CDs.
