Re: pay scale for service members..

It's not really my dept., but just from working here I know that:

Soliders with family will receive more BAH, however, it also depends on their rank and how many family members they have.

Unaccompanied soldiers/single soldiers have the option of living in one of our single soldier houses.

However, with all of the construction going on, we have low-ranking personnel and high-ranking personnel mixed together in our neighborhoods for the time being.

Everything comes out of their BAH (basic allowance for housing)automatically. We've also introduced mock billing for utilites. If they go over a certain allotment of their ulities per month, the service member is responsible for paying the extra.

Correct me if I am wrong, I am just the receptionist.

  • Yes, your BAH depends on rank, dependent status and location.?

However, your living situation and the housing that you will be offered varies WIDELY from location to location and can even vary from time to time at the same post.?

  • I was in the Army, and worked in the finance department for 8 years...but now it seems so long ago that I have heard all the BAH and BAQ's.  I did it for that long, but now it all seems a little foreign since I have been out for 4 years now!

  • BAH is either with dependents or without.  It does not matter if you have no kids but are married or if you have 8 kids.  It is different for each zip code based off of the cost of living in that area.  Sometimes single soldiers ONLY have the choice of living in the barracks...like in Germany.  They cannot get BAH and live off post unless they are a certain rank.
  • Oh yeah, and not all places give you BAH then take it from your pay.  Sometimes you just don't ever see that money listed on the LES.  And some places the utilities and such is set up different.
