EPers dip in supply around 2-3 months?

While I am still hopeful that my daughter will eventually latch on and BF, I have been EPing and getting anywhere from about 2 oz to 6 oz a pump session so far.   I was talking to my LC today about giving up on trying to BF in a few weeks if it still doesn't work and EPing.  She told me that many people she know that tried this had a dip in their supply around 2 or 3 months and had a hard time with it.  Did anyone experience this dip she is talking about?

  • some people get comfortable with EPing and think they can stop pumping as much... a lot sooner than they should.

I was pumping every two to three hours for the first 12 weeks around the clock without fail. and I have NEVER had a problem with my supply and i am almost ten months into pumping.

the more diligence you put into pumping the first 12 weeks the easier time you will have EPing. once your supply regulates the hard it will be to raise your supply. GL

  • My supply increased at that point.  I went back to work, and the structure of scheduling when I would pump really helped me out.  I also got a good hands free bra that held everything in place.. and that allowed me to relax a lot while pumping.  I went from 18-20 ozs/day to 30-32 ozs/day.  I'm now at about 25 ozs a day since my stomach bug a few weeks back.  I've added back 2 pumps each day (back to 6) and my supply is creeping back up.  Because I'm past 12 weeks pp, it's a daunting task.  If I get to 27-28 ozs/day, I'll be happy.

My advice- keep pumping every 2-3 hours until you're 14 weeks pp.  Then drop your pumps slowly!

  • Ditto pps, if you pump religiously for the first 3 months then you should be fine.  I didn't have any problems.
