TTC after 35

Can I have some advice from new moms/dads?

Hi there, I'm on the verge of getting married and am developing some fears that I either need quelled or confirmed. I am 32 and my fiance is 41. I also have PCOS and high blood pressure so that may make TTC much more difficult. My fiance has littly to no health problems, although he could stand it lose some weight. I fear that because he is older we may not have a healthy baby. What is too old to have a healthy baby? As an only child, I really want to have 2, but is that realistic? Am I worrying too much? Any good advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

  • I was 38 when I had Nicholas and DH turned 45 a few months later and he is perfect in every sense of the matter.  My family has a family friend who had a little girl when she was 43 and her H was 45 and she is perfectly healthy and fine.

You will probably be offered certain testing options once you're pg that a 20-something would not necessarily be, but you can take or leave some of them depending on your choice.

BTW--DH and I are going to be TTC #2 which will make me at least 39 when I have him if not pushing 40 and of course DH will be older too.  My OB said that she has many women in their 40s having children and they are fine.

  • Generally, maternal age is far more of a concern than paternal age. And 32 is young! you would not be considered high risk due to your age (not to say you would not wind up high risk for other reasons, just age would not be a negative factor for you at this point).

I had my son just a couple of weeks before turning 36 and he is perfect. One friend of mine had #1 at 40 and #2 at 45 - both are happy and healthy kids.

We're planning to try for #2 soon, and my cutoff point is in about 2 years - my personal rule is that I don't want teenagers in my house when I'm in my 60s Smile
