DS won't take bottle anymore...

We introduced the bottle to DS around 3 weeks and he took it right away with no problems (we have been giving him a bottle every 2-3 days since introducing him to it). Now 2 weeks later, the last two times we've offered it to him he will not take it and ends up screaming until I give up and give him the breast. Has this happened to anyone else? How did you get your LO to take the bottle again? TIA!

  • My dd did the same thing, we actually gave her a bottle on a sunday night, she took it and the following day she flipped out.   We tried different bottles and stuck with dr. brown's b/c that seemed to cause the least crying. We also found that if we swaddled her she would take it better, i think it was added comfort for her.  We also started doing it once a day until she was taking them again.

  • I feel for you! I had the same problem and spent a ton of money on different bottles and ended up using the playtex?drop-ins?with a latex nipple (flesh colored). It is the only bottle DD will take. I think it is because it has more "give" like our own nipples. I also offered her the bottle everyday, and stopped once she started to fuss. You don't want to force it. I also put DD on her newborn Boppy lounger on the countertop facing me. Holding her didn't work, she would?turn?to me and try to nurse. Hope some of this helps, I know how frustrating it can be. Check out Kellymom.com for some help too!

  • I wouldn't worry about it too much.  He might just be fussy and really want the comfort of mom right now.  Also, there is a growth spurt at 6 weeks, so he might be more needy for mommy if he's in that.

Hold off for a week and then try again.  We only offered my daughter a bottle about once a week during maternity leave and it was usually when I was out of the house (grocery shopping, etc), and she took it fine when I went back to work.

Same for us.  DS will sometimes get a bit fussy on Tuesdays with his first bottle (I work Tuesday - Friday) but he takes it and after that the rest of the week is smooth sailing!
